Graduate Students

Abhishesh Bajracharya

Graduate Student (joined in May 2020)

Abhishesh completed his B.Tech (Biotechnology) degree from Purbanchal University, Nepal and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. His research in the Qiu lab focuses on thermomorphogenesis in the model dicot Arabidopsis thaliana.

Anupa Wasti

Graduate Student (will join in January 2022)

Anupa completed her master’s degree in biology (Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology) from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Currently, she is interested in plant thermal response and its molecular mechanisms due to temperature variations.

Ranjeeta Odari

Graduate Student (will join in January 2022)

Ranjeeta completed her bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and master’s degree in Biotechnology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Molecular biology is her major field of interest and she aims to continue her research experience as a PhD student in plant molecular biology.

Eden Bayer

Undergraduate Research Assistant (joined in September 2019)

Eden is a junior at the University of Mississippi pursuing a B.S. in biology and a minor in environmental studies. After her undergraduate studies, Eden hopes to attend medical school and aspires to become a medical missionary and provide healthcare to those who cannot afford traditional treatment. 

Gabriella Newton

Undergraduate Research Assistant (joined in August 2020)

Gabriella Newton is a senior at the University of Mississippi pursuing her B.A. in biology with minors in General Business and Chemistry. After college, Gabriella plans to attend medical school and one day open her own women’s health practice.

Suzanne Crull

Undergraduate Research Assistant (joined in October 2020)

Suzanne Crull is a junior at the University of Mississippi pursuing a B.A. in Biochemistry and a minor in Biology.  Suzanne plans on attending graduate school after graduation.

Julia Lott

Julia is a senior at the University of Mississippi pursuing a B.A. in Biology and minoring in Chemistry and Spanish. After graduation, she hopes to attend medical school and have a career focused on women’s health.

Alyssa is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi pursuing a B.S. in Biology. She plans to attend graduate school after graduation.

Shaunna George

Shaunna is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, pursuing a B.A. in Biological Sciences and minoring in Chemistry and Military Science. After graduation, she plans to go to medical school and become a physician or gynecologist for the United States Army.

Savannah White

Savannah is a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, pursuing a B.A. biology major and a chemistry minor. After graduation, she hopes to attend medical school and aspires to become an emergency physician.

Lilla Reed

Undergraduate Research Assistant (will join in January 2022)

Lilla is a junior at the University of Mississippi pursuing a B.A. in Biology with a minor in chemistry. After college, Lilla plans to attend medical school with hopes of becoming a surgeon.

High School Students

Kashama Mehta

High School Scholar (joined in July 2021)

Kashama is a senior at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, Mississippi’s only public residential high school for academically gifted students. Recruited from the ARISE@UM program, she is assisting Abhishesh with the thermomorphogenesis project in Arabidopsis. Kashama plans to get a degree in biological science or mechanical engineering.

Roshan Dhakal

Rotation Graduate Student (February 2021 – March 2021)

Roshan completed his undergraduate degree in B.Sc (Agriculture) from Agriculture and Forestry University (Nepal). Currently, he is pursuing his further study as a PhD student in Biological Sciences at the University of Mississippi. With learning different skills of biology, bio-technology and molecular biology, he has aimed to apply them in the field of agriculture in future.

Caroline Clutton

Undergraduate Research Assistant (January 2020 – May 2021)

Caroline is a senior at the University of Mississippi pursuing a B.A. in Biology and minoring in Spanish and Chemistry. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school. She hopes to use Spanish to be able to communicate with patients who may not have a strong English-speaking background in order to provide effective medical care. 

Chloe Grant

Chloe is a senior at the University of Mississippi pursuing her B.S. in biology with minors in Spanish and Society & Health. After college, Chloe plans to pursue a Master’s degree in either public health or biotechnology.

Karlie Grace

Karlie is a senior at the University of Mississippi pursuing a B.A. in biology and psychology. Currently, she aspires to work in the field of neuroscience and is considering going to school to be a physician’s assistant after graduation.

Bradley is a junior at the University of Mississippi pursuing a B.A. in Biology and minoring in Chemistry and Psychology. After graduation, he plans to attend medical school.

Carol Marcel is a senior at the University of Mississippi pursuing a B.A. in Biology and minoring in Chemistry and English. After college, she is considering either medical school or graduate school.

Karen Wong

Undergraduate Research Assistant (October 2019 – September 2020)

Karen is currently double majoring in Biochemistry and Chinese in the Chinese Flagship Program. Upon graduating college, she plans to attend medical school to become a doctor who can help the non-English speaking Chinese community effectively communicate their needs while seeking medical treatment.
